Heart burn is the burning sensation in the region. This sensation is present behind breast bone and mainly present in esophagus. Burning is felt because of the acid reflux i.e. stomach acids enter into esophagus. It is a digestive problem and very rarely associated with heart issue.

Home Remedies for Heartburn


Home remedies have always been a reliable source of treating health and its related problems. Here are some great home remedies which are in used from many years to treat heartburn.

Herbal Treatment



Basil has been used for many years to treat many diseases. In curing heartburn, it is also very useful.

  •  Take leaves of basil and wash them well.
  • Now take 3 leaves and chew them raw. It will help fighting the cause of heartburn.



Marshmallow is also used to treat heartburn. Roots of marshmallow are used in form of tea which coats the esophagus line from compound called mucilage and soothes pain caused by heartburn.

  • Take dried marshmallow roots 1 tablespoon.
  • Take boiling water 8 oz and add dried marshmallow roots in it.
  • Cover it well for few minutes.
  • Then strain, reheat it and it is ready to drink.
  • Use at least thrice a day.


Fennel is gifted with properties for heal burning of heartburn. Its usage on daily basis gives relieve from heartburn. In form of tea, it is taken to cure heartburn.

  • Take 2 teaspoon of fennel.
  • Boil 1 cup of water and mix fennel in it.
  • Leave fennel in boiling water for few minutes.
  • Then strain, reheat and drink it.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is best known because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It has been used for many years for curing many diseases and it treats them all very effectively.

  • For treating heartburn aloe vera juice is used.
  • Take aloe juice which is specifically made for intake. Don’t take gel or juice directly from plant.

Peppermint oil

Heartburn problem can also be cured with help of peppermint oil. Its soothing effects ease irritation which is caused by heartburn.

  • Take peppermint oil.
  • Take cool water 8 oz and add two drops of its oil in it.
  • Drink whenever you suffer from heartburn.

Slippery elm

Slippery elm treats causes of heartburn by creating mucus thick layer around stomach which prevents acid from causing heartburn.

  • Take half cup of warm water.
  • Add one teaspoon of slippery elm in it and mix it well.
  • Drink it once daily to relieve heartburn.


Cinnamon is the herb which prevents heartburn easily. It cooling effect makes it a reliable source for treating heartburn.

  • Take cinnamon and grind it so it becomes powder.
  • Take 1 cup of boiling water and add powdered cinnamon in it.
  • Mix it well. Then strain and drink it.


Fruits and vegetables



Pineapple is very helpful in easing heartburn. Presence of bromelain makes it effective against heart burn, excessive acidity. It controls amount of HCl in stomach.


Ginger is best source of treating stomach problems. It is also very effective against heartburn. It eases stomach.


Soft sweet banana helps in treating heartburn. Its antacid properties reduce acidity in stomach which becomes reason of heartburn.


Garlic usage in treating heartburn is very helpful. It works as powerful antibiotic which helps in fighting against heartburn related problems like gastritis etc.


Potato is extremely helpful in treating heartburn. It stables amount of acid in stomach. It also repairs line of esophagus.
