Dandruff is scalp disorder that affects person of any age. In this condition, hair cell shed from the scalp. This cell removal is associated with itching and if the dandruff is chronic, it is present with irritation.

Home Remedies for Dandruff

Home remedies use for treating medical problems are probably the best way to cure them completely and securely. People rely on home remedies more because they are effectual and also don’t produce any adverse effects. For dandruff, there are some very effective home remedies that also make hair look good.

Herbal Treatment



Fenugreek treats dandruff effectively and quickly. Fenugreek is known to treat scalp drying problem which leads to dandruff.  It has anti-fungal properties, which also prevent dandruff from coming back.

  • Take fenugreek and soak it in bowl for night. Don’t take too much water.
  • In morning, grind it well to make its paste.
  • Apply paste on scalp nicely and leave it for 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Wash it away firstly with water and then use shampoo to clean hairs.
  • Repeat this procedure till you are dandruff free.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is best known for treating hairs and its related problems. It has some amazing properties. It is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and also gives strength to hair roots by removing dandruff.

  • Take fresh piece of aloe and peel off its upper skin.
  • Take its gel and apply it well on scalp.
  • Leave it for half an hour then rinse it with water.  Use this method thrice a week to get good results.


Another herb which has remarkable capabilities of treating dandruff is basil. It also soothes irritation caused by dandruff.

  • Take leaves of basil and make paste of it.
  • Then mix that paste with well grind powder of amla for better and effective result.
  • Now take paste and massage it well on scalp. Leave it for at least 30 minutes.
  • In the end rinse it with water.

Tea Tree oil

Tea tree is used for treating dandruff because of its antiseptic properties which makes it effective against fighting dandruff.

  • Take tea tree oil and add its few drops in your hair oil.
  • Mix them together then apply it on scalp thoroughly.
  • Leave it for an hour.
  • Wash it with your shampoo.
  • It can be use once in a week for preventing dandruff.

Fruits and vegetables



Intake of green papaya for treating dandruff is wise choice. Papain presence in papaya makes it a handy component for treating digestion related problem, which may also become reason of dandruff.

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits also help in reducing dandruff and gives strength to hairs. Vitamin C rich citrus fruits have high quality of antioxidants that provide health to hairs and make them strong.


Dandruff also cause because of excessive oily scalp which occur due to extra oil secretion from sebaceous glands. In this case, berries such as raspberries, blackberries etc are highly rich with zinc which helps fighting dandruff by limiting sebaceous gland secretion.


Ginger has high anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that help in fighting against dandruff. It has been in use from old times because of its effective nature. Adding it in your daily diet give you relieve from dandruff in no time.
